What is the Dye VL Pro and what is it used for?
The Dye VL Pro effectively treats rosacea, telangiectasias or spider angiomas (single dilated blood vessels), port wine stains (tend to darken and thicken as the person ages), hemangiomas (grow rapidly after birth, but usually disappear with time), sun damaged skin, spider veins, and stretch marks that are red in coloration. The pulsed dye laser is a device that produces a bright light that is absorbed by abnormal blood vessels, which are destroyed without damaging the surrounding skin.
How long is each treatment? How many treatments will I need?
Sessions last up to thirty minutes, depending on the size of the area. Some lesions (spider angiomas) may require only one or two treatment sessions, while larger lesions (port wine stains) require four to ten sessions.
Is the Dye VL Pro painful?
The treatment feels like a small rubber band snapping against the skin, with a potential lingering burning/tingling sensation for up to six hours after treatment.
What can I expect before treatment?
Avoid direct exposure to the sun for three weeks prior to the treatment as well as photosensitive medications for ten days. Sunburn and suntan may absorb the laser light and make the treatment less effective or adverse effects more prevalent. Avoid aspirin and aspirin-like products for two weeks prior to treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?
Flaking of the skin may develop in the first several days and last up to two weeks. Some may experience a temporary brown discoloration of the skin for several months. When necessary, high setting may be used, a purple discoloration may appear immediately after the treatment – this lasts for seven to ten days. Treated skin may be overly sensitive to the sun and should not be exposed for several weeks to months. A sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater is suggested.
